The Green Lantern movie is litterally just out of the can, and already we have a YouTube-based spoiler leak of massive proportions. In the Green Lantern movie Thaal Sinestro starts as the mentor to new GL member Hal Jordan, and while the character played by Mark Strong winds up a villian, in the movie, he’s not – until the end.
For those who have seen The Green Lantern and want some background for the transformation Sinestro’s about to go through, this paragraph from the March 24th, 2010 review of Green Lantern #52 has this interesting paragraph:
Wow, what an issue. So last month, in Blackest Night #7, we became aware of a secret of the Guardians: Life was born on Earth, leaving them without the authority, or jurisdiction, to guard the universe. Nekron released the white entity, to kill it, ending life, and in his mind, bringing peace to the universe. In a surprise ending, Sinestro took the power of the white light and declared himself “the greatest lantern of them all.”
Fast forward to June 16th 2011, and that take lives on in the movie, but with Sinestro switching his green power ring for a yellow, not white, power ring, at the very end of the movie, after the credits. Here’s the clip:
Note that Sinestro feels the sudden rush of power and looks on to his next, new task, thus indicating a second Green Lantern Movie.
I must note that, in reviews of the movie, fans and fanboys are far more forgiving of the film’s problems than its critics, and wiling to toss verbal assaults at anyone who chimes in. For example, many on the Green Lantern Message Board Forums called Comic Book writer Mark Millar names like “douche” and “asshole” because of his Twitter-based rants on the movie:
mrmarkmillar Mark Millar
I hereby declare Green Lantern the worst superhero movie ever made. And yes I count The Phantom and The Shadow as superhero movies.mrmarkmillar Mark Millar
Green Lantern was the cheapest-looking 300 million dollar movie I’ve ever seen. Why didn’t they give that money Africa?mrmarkmillar Mark Millar
It had a couple of good moments, all coming from Mark Strong. But oh man.
Well, see the movie for yourself. I will on Saturday.
