SFGate.com New Website Ads Hog RAM
SFGate.com has a new website design that is years overdue. But from the way it performs, that will not be the design that exists for a while.

Clean and easy to read it is, but the way they achieved a responsive design is such that it’s a RAM memory hog that is slow to use. So much so that it’s frustrating.

In analyzing the design, I see what the problem is: the ads. The process of loading ads from four other websites holds up the loading of the overall site.

SFGate.com has had this problem before, as unknowning managers worked to squeeze money from the site by sticking whatever menu bar ad service in that was available.

I know what the solution to this problem is but as they are a competitor and the SF Chronicle did not do the smart thing and hire me as a consultant or even as executive director, I am not going to bother.
