Miami Design District At Center Of Miami’s Art, Culture

MiamiDesignDistrictLogo Miami Design District, once slow to get off the development ground, is now all-but fully realized. It’s become the center of Miami’s emergence as an art and cultural center, and architecture and design firms like MV Group have seen their client lists grow (as well as their influence) during this transformation of this great city.

The Miami Design District is bounded by North 36 St to the south, North 43rd Street to the north, West First Avenue to the west and Biscayne Boulevard to the east. It’s home to 130 art galleries, architecture firms, creative services, stores, antique dealers, restaurants and bars.

The Miami Design District has a great event called “Art & Design Night,” held on the second Saturday of the month from 7 PM and 10 PM. Art & Design Night is kind of like Oakland’s Art Murmur in that the local art galleries open their doors to patrons for the evening, and between those hours.

But The Miami Design District is more than just artists, it’s also the home of luxury design retailers like Christian Louboutin, Yohji Yamamoto, and Louis Vuitton, as well as Sephora, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, Fendi, Hermes, Cartier and Dior.

The person credited with the development of the Miami Design District is Craig Robins, Chief Executive Officer and President of Dacra, a real estate development company, and who’s become one of the largest developers in the district. Mr. Robins saw an opportunity in the once decayed urban area where property was cheap – now that’s not the case: Originally, in the mid-’90s, we were purchasing buildings for $20 to $30 per square foot. Today, land sells for more than $1,000 per square foot,” he said to OceanDrive.com.

If you’re in Miami, don’t think that it just has South Beach; the Miami Design District is a place to be and to see. The center of Miami’s emergence as a center of modern art and culture.

Stay tuned.
