But while we were eating, some dude in dark glasses elected to just stand there and lean up against the window and look in what was only my direction. It’s on the video and looks creepy. Bill figured he was waiting for the Broadway Free Shuttle, but when I pointed out to him that the guy was standing the way he was, Bill said something like “Maybe he’s after you.” LOL.
So, after a great meal, we waited to talk with the great Vo’s himself. John Vo.
Mr. Vo has been in Oakland for about 52 years and he and his great eatery are enjoying a rediscovery, as workers and Oaklanders flock to Vo’s for lunch and for dinner – or just hanging out. “We love this location. We were here when no one was here; we’re still here,” he said.
After talking with Vo himself, I walked down Grand Avenue toward Broadway and just two doors away was a lot of construction activity. A man named Nick happened to see that I was standing there, and invited me inside, as my Flip Video Camera was running. The new place, set to open in November, is called Loring, and it’s a hoot of a design.
I’ve never seen anything like it before, and predict that it will be a new “in place” in Oakland’s Uptown District.
