Is CNN making more personnel changes or did marketing just forget to include it’s weekend anchor, and all-around fill-in-guy Don Lemon?
And what about Ali Velshi, who is CNN’s business go-to-guy? Well, Ali’s leaving CNN for Al Jazeera America, or a business opportunity that he “could not pass up.” He left April 4th on “friendly terms” and thinks CNN will do well under new President Jeff Zucker.
That means my memorable exchanges with Ali are now officially part of lore…
… as are the scenes of him getting wind-blown and video-bombed:
But what about Don Lemon?
Don Lemon has been with CNN since 2006, and for a time was its morning face along with Kira Phillips, and then with Brianna Keilor. But over the last year, Don’s schedule was shifted so he worked the weekend anchor position. In other words, for some time Lemon has been the face you see on the weekend.
But why isn’t he part of the new CNN promotional effort?
That’s something to note.
I hope CNN turns around and promotes Don, as he’s a steady player, a great TV journalist, and one of the few black faces with a constant presence that’s not BET. If we don’t watch it, TV is going to be racially split between BET and Al Jazeera America with the people of color bringing news, and CNN, Fox, and the majors with the white faces.
That’s not a good thing. Especially since America itself is so diverse.
Stay tuned.
