Dave Grohl performed his classic hit “Band on the Run” before President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and Vice President Joe Biden and his family, and and Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder and friends at The White House during the The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, which aired on Wednesday, July 28 2010 at 8 p.m. ET on PBS.

This is one more example of why President Obama so represents modern America. I grew up with “Band on the Run” through junior high school in Oakland, and it was one of those songs that marked the culture of friends I had at the time, and now. Plus, and this is the story the mainstream media consistently ignores, there are many thousands of African Americans like myself who share my story.
