The 2013 Wimbledon winner, who beat Sabine Lisicki in what some considered an upset, failed to play at the Western & Southern Tennis Open this week, first “retiring” from the event, then later, from Tennis entirely.
“My body was really starting to fall apart and I was able to keep it together, go through the pain — with a lot of pain — throughout this Wimbledon and make it happen,” she said.

Everyone wanted to know who she was dating, and she was getting proposals on Twitter (for what that’s worth). And after her 2013 Wimbledon win, Marion Bartoli become a hot property.
Because of that, it has to be really hard for her to feel she has to stop playing Tennis. But she has to save herself for the rest of her life.
