Chicago Marathon: Kenyans Dennis Kimetto and Rita Jeptoo Set Course Records

chicago-marathon-signThe Chicago Marathon 2013 was much like other prominent American running races: it was dominated by great Kenyan runners.

This time the Kenyans at the front of the finish line, also set new course records.

Dennis Kimetto and Rita Jeptoo were the victorious male and female winners. Dennis Kimetto battled fellow Kenyan Emmanuel Mutai to win the men’s leg. In doing so he finished in two hours three minutes 45 seconds, beating the previous course record of 2.04:38 set by Ethiopia’s Tsegaye Kebede just last year, 2012.

Jeptoo, who won the Boston Marathon in 2006, finished the 2013 Chicago Marathon in 2:19.57 – not the course record, but much faster than all other women.
