Larry Roberts. A man claiming to be Larry Roberts was arrested today on the Georgia 400 and because, after an accident, it was found that he was driving on a suspended license and had a failure-to-appear-in-court bench warrant that was outstanding. According to Atlanta’s Channel 2 News at Noon, the man who said his name was Larry Roberts also told law enforcement that was the same Larry Roberts who played for the San Francisco 49ers.
If that’s the case, and the person on television did look like an older, heavier version of the man in the photo below, it’s a sad addition to the news about a person who gave so much to bring the San Francisco 49ers the second Super Bowl win in 1989 against the Cincinnati Bengals, 20 to 16. Roberts played for eight seasons for the San Francisco 49ers from 1986 to 1993, and started in Super Bowl XXIII.
That’s sad news. To this blogger, the NFL needs to take special care of the people who made up the game because in the digital media environment of today, what they do in life reflects on football, positively or negatively. Right now, a lot of news about players in their post-NFL life has been negative.
Stay tuned.
