42-year-old Scott Dekraai is described by his neighbors and friends as a “nice guy” who’s leg was injured while he was trying to help a fellow tugboat worker. But that Seal Beach resident is not considered anything like “nice” now, as he’s the suspect in a mass murder that has shocked that town.
Scott Dekraai reportedly walked into a hair salon and started shooting his gun at people in it. In the OC Register, it’s said that Scott Dekraai and his ex-wife were in a court child custody battle that it looked like he was going to win.
Friends and associates were shocked. “His demeanor was always very controlled, almost serene,” attorney John Cate Jr. said. “In my dealings with him, I never saw him get upset, get agitated.” Cote said Dekraai was generally “monotone.”
Stephanie Machow, Dekraai’s next door neighbor, said that he was at times complaining about his ex-wife. She told the OC Register, “Never could I imagine him doing this,” she said. “I thought he was the nicest guy ever… The only reason I could imagine him flipping out is because of some kind of argument over his son. He was everything to Scott.”

There’s no reason why guns should be so easy to get that a person like Mr. Dekraai could just go off and kill people.
