Golden Globes Winners List: “12 Years a Slave” Best Pict, “American Hustle” Tops

12-years-a-slave-poster 12 Years a Slave, the arresting and disturbing movie based on the real-life story of Solomon Northup as shared in his memoir and as told to and edited by David Wilson, was the expected Best Picture, Drama winner at the 71st Golden Globes in Los Angeles last night.

12 Years a Slave is a movie like no other. Solomon Northup was born a free man, then kidnapped and forced into slavery in the Washington of The South, then, after 12 years in a nightmarish existence, found and rescued and returned to his family in Saratoga Springs, New York. Here’s my video interview with people who saw it after a special screening last year:

And here’s a scene from 12 Years a Slave:

American Hustle, the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (played by Christian Bale of The Dark Night series), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (played by Amy Adams of Man of Steel) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (played by Bradley Cooper of Silver Linings Playbook), won three Golden Globes: Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical, Best Actress (Amy Adams), and Best Supporting Actress (Jennifer Lawrence).

Here’s a scene from American Hustle:
