Venture Beat captured the following screenshot of NBC’s Twitter page which was hacked earlier:
The tweets kept insisting that Ground Zero had been attacked and that this was no joke. Well, it was a joke – and it wasn’t a funny joke at all. There have been many speculations about another terrorist attack on the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2011, but this is all just being blown out of proportion. I mean, maybe I am wrong and maybe it’s good for everyone to be prepared; we should always be prepared and ready for if there’s an attack on our country, but whoever hacked NBC and thought that it was funny to post that and make people worry wasn’t amusing.
Venture Beat reported:
” Then nearly ten minutes after the first tweet, the hackers announced their success on @NBCNews by saying, “NBCNEWS news hacked by The Script Kiddies. Follow them at @s_kiddies!”
The group also updated NBC’s twitter bio stating the same.
The Script Kiddies twitter handle @s_kidding no longer exists.
Brian Williams of NBC Nightly News read a statement from the company on the show last night announcing the false information. The statement said, “We are working with Twitter to correct the situation, we sincerely apologize for the scare.” ”
Let’s see what happens tomorrow.
