Zennie,
Thanks for the invitation, but I will be withdrawing my papers to support Abel Guillen in the D2 race. He’s run in this district as both a Peralta Community Board member and during his Assembly race (and won the area over Bonta). With no disrespect to everyone else, who I’ve heard nothing but good things about, Abel is clearly best qualified and best positioned to represent D2.
Abel Guillen is going to file his papers this week.
UPDATE: Kevin Blackburn To Enter Oakland City Council District Two Race
On a side note, get to know all of the candidates, then decide. For example, I just interviewed Andrew Park, and you can see that here:
Personally, given the strength of the candidates in District Two, I think Michael Colbruno would have helped Abel more by staying in the race and then campaigning and asking voters to pick Abel as their second choice.
Right now, neither Abel nor Colbruno has enough name recognition with the electorate for such a move to be on any real importance. We’re in an Oakland where, for the first time because of the population that’s new to the city, has a vast number of residents who know nothing about it, or its history, or who represents them.
Stay tuned.
