The SF Transbay Transit Center Construction Process has reached a number of milestones on its way toward completion in 2017.
First, this week, reinforcing steel installation, concrete placement, electrical conduits, plumbing and waterproofing system installation, reinforcing steel for walls, wall forming and concrete pours are the order of the day, and while it continues work that was started months ago, it’s starting to wind to a close in another few months. Here’s the details for this week:
Western Transit Center Site (Between First and Second Streets): This week work is scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM and includes; reinforcing steel installation, concrete placement, electrical conduits, plumbing and waterproofing system installation, reinforcing steel for walls, wall forming and concrete pours. This week rigging and removal of cross lot steel bracing is scheduled daily between the hours of 6:00 AM and 10:30 PM. General maintenance of equipment, material deliveries and clean-up will also be performed between the hours of 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. Trucks and equipment will enter and exit from the construction gates located on Howard Street (between First and Second Streets) and at First Street (between Mission and Howard Streets).
Central Transit Center Site (Between Fremont and First Streets): This week work is scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM and includes; reinforcing steel installation, concrete placement, electrical conduits, plumbing and waterproofing system installation, reinforcing steel for walls, wall forming and concrete pours. This week rigging and removal of cross lot steel bracing is scheduled daily between the hours of 6:00 AM and 10:30 PM. Micropile drilling, fine grading excavation, trucking are in progress at the eastern end daily between the hours of 5:00 AM and 6:30 PM. General maintenance of equipment, material deliveries and clean-up will also be performed between the hours of 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. Trucks will enter and exit from the construction gates located on Fremont Street and at First Street (between Mission an d Howard Streets).
Eastern Transit Center Site (Between Beale and Fremont Streets): This week excavation, trucking and welding of cross lot steel bracing is scheduled daily between the hours of 5:00 AM and 6:30 PM. General maintenance of equipment, equipment and material deliveries and clean-up will also be performed between the hours of 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. Trucks will enter and exit from the construction gates located on Fremont Street and at Beale Street (between Mission and Howard Streets).

This work is scheduled from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM on Saturday December 14th. There is no construction work scheduled for Sunday. Trucks and equipment will enter and exit from the construction gate located on Howard Street (between First and Second Streets) and the construction gate at First Street (between Mission and Howard Streets).
Central Transit Center Site (Between Fremont and First Streets): This weekend work includes; reinforcing steel installation, electrical conduits, plumbing, waterproofing system installation and wall and column forming. This work is scheduled from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM on Saturday December 14. Micropile drilling, fine grading excavation, and trucking are in progress at the eastern end and is scheduled from 8:00 AM to 10:30 PM on Saturday December 14th. There is no construction work scheduled for Sunday. Trucks will enter and exit from the construction gates located on Fremont Street and at First Street (between Mission and Howard Streets).
Eastern Transit Center Site (Between Beale and Fremont Streets): This weekend demolition of buttress (last level) and the continuation of the excavated soils off-hauling and steel bracing installation are scheduled from 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM on Saturday December 14. General maintenance of equipment, equipment and material deliveries and site clean-up is also scheduled during this shift. There is no construction work scheduled for Sunday. Trucks will enter and exit from the construction gates located on Fremont Street and at Beale Street (between Mission and Howard Streets).
Street Closures During Construction
Here’s a detailed summary of the street closures you should be aware of:
Mission Street (Main Street to Fremont Street): Mission Street traffic may be impacted occasionally during construction of the underground auxiliary water supply system piping. This work has been coordinated with MUNI operations and must be performed at night. The contractor this week is focused on the section of Mission between Beale and Main Street. This work is scheduled Monday through Friday night from 7:30 PM to the next morning at 5.30 AM. Impact tools and cutting of asphalt concrete will be performed between 7.30 PM to 10.00 PM for the next week due to noise permit requirements. This work will continue weekly until December 20, 2013. Work will resume in January and continue into the first quarter of 2014.
Howard Street (Between Fremont and Second Streets): Howard Street traffic may be impacted occasionally during construction with trucks exiting at the construction gates onto Howard Street. Construction flaggers and SFPD will be assigned during peak hours to assist with traffic and pedestrians during these major concrete pours. During the week, Monday through Saturday Trucks and equipment will enter and exit from the construction gate located on Howard Street (between First and Second Streets).
Main Street (Between Mission and Howard Streets): Main Street traffic may be impacted occasionally during construction of the underground auxiliary water supply system piping. This work has been coordinated with MUNI operations and must be performed at night. Next week our contractor is focused on the intersection of Mission and Main Street. This work is scheduled Monday through Friday night from 7:30 PM to the next morning at 5.30 AM.
First Street (Between Mission and Howard Streets): First Street traffic may be impacted occasionally during construction with trucks exiting at the construction gates onto First Street. Construction flaggers and SFPD will be assigned during peak hours to assist with traffic and pedestrians. There is now an additional traffic light activated on First Street mid-block between Howard and Mission Streets – commuters and pedestrians should be prepared to stop. Pedestrians will continue to use west sidewalk of the temporary bridge between Mission and Howard Streets. Pedestrians are urged to please use the crosswalks at the Mission and Howard Street intersection to safely cross.
Fremont Street (Between Mission and Howard Streets): Fremont Street traffic will be temporarily detoured on Monday morning December 9 between 2:00 AM and 5:00 AM due to relocation of construction crane across Fremont street for construction assist in the Central Transit Center site. The crane will traverse from the Eastern to the Central Transit Center site and then back again. This work has been coordinated with SFMTA and must be performed at night. Construction flaggers and SFPD will be assigned to assist with traffic and pedestrians.
During the week, Fremont Street traffic may be impacted occasionally during construction with trucks exiting at the construction gates onto Fremont Street. Construction flaggers and SFPD will be assigned during peak hours to assist with traffic and pedestrians. There is now an additional traffic light activated on Fremont Street mid-block between Howard and Mission Streets – be prepared to stop. The eastern sidewalk is closed. Pedestrians will continue to use west sidewalk of the temporary bridge and are urged to use the crosswalks at the Mission and Howard Street intersection to safely cross.
Beale Street (Between Mission and Howard Streets): Beale Street traffic may be impacted occasionally during construction with trucks exiting at the construction gates onto Beale Street. Construction flaggers will be assigned during peak hours to assist with traffic and pedestrians. Pedestrians will continue to use east sidewalk between Mission and Howard Streets. Pedestrians are urged to please use the crosswalks at the Mission and Howard Street intersection to safely cross.
Natoma Street (Between Fremont and First Streets): Natoma Street (between Fremont and First Streets) has been reduced to one lane, one way (west bound), all vehicles will enter from Fremont Street and exit at First Street. Local vehicle and pedestrian access will remain available.
Natoma Street (Between First and Second Streets): Natoma Street (between First and Second Streets) has been changed to a dead end street for the life of the project with no vehicle access through Natoma Street from Second Street. Local vehicle and pedestrian access will remain available.
Minna Street (Between First and Second Streets): Minna Street has been reduced to one lane, one way (west bound), all vehicles will enter from First Street and exit at Second Street. There will be no parking along Minna Street between First Street and 130 feet east of Second Street for the life of the project. Local vehicle and pedestrian access will remain available.
