Police In Oakland Shoot Occupy Oakland Video Blogger

Facebook

If the video above doesn’t upset you, you’re not human. On the night of the day of the Occupy Oakland General Strike, Scott Campbell, a 30 year old video blogger, did what vloggers do: use their camcorder to capture a moment in time on video for the World to see.

But Scott didn’t think he was going to be shot at by a police officer. It’s not clear if the police officer was from Oakland, or some where else, but what’s obvious from the video is the cop was targeting Mr. Campbell.

As I looked at the video, the first thought that came to mind was that it could have been me. And I’ve received death threats for what I’ve vlogged about, so I’m quite watchful to start with.

But it’s one thing to get threats from a joe-blow, but for a police officer to do this sends chills. Say, as many times as I’m stopped by people on the street who say “You’re that YouTube guy” how do I know the officer didn’t think he was shooting at me?

Just saying.

The point is Scott could have been anyone: me, or even an Oakland Councilmember who may have been out observing how the police worked with Occupy Oakland protestors. Regardless, this should not have happened, and the Oakland Police Department needs to put a stop to this.

NOW.

Else, this Occupy Oakland situation is only going to get worse.

Stay tuned.
