Social Media Jobs: 1,357 Percent Increase Since 2010

Social Media has grown from a something regarded as the plaything of 20-somethings to a real activity that can have positive or negative impacts on a company’s fiscal picture. The change in how social media is regarded is reflected in the fact that social media jobs of various types have increased by 1,357 percent since 2010.

This infographic created by Offerpop shows in graphic form the change in numbers and the rise of social media in the employment picture. It is based on data from LinkedIn and reports the following:

The top five social media roles on LinkedIn based on the number of users with the title:

1. Social media manager (21,106 users)

2. Social media marketer (11,862 users)

3. Social media coordinator (6,825 users)

4. Social media specialist (6,709 users)

5. Social media consultant (6,051 users)

The top five most social cities:

1. New York City

2. Los Angeles

3. San Francisco

4. London

5. Chicago

Before I present the inforgraphic, it’s important to note that even with this rise in demand for social media workers of all types, there’s still the misconception that social media is just Facebook and Twitter. It’s not.

Social Media is the distribution of content and message via different platforms and apps, and the establishment of and management of conversations relevant to that content, as well as participation in conversations relevant to your needs or interests.

That definition was created by me.

Here’s the infographic.
