The add for Star Trek: Into Darkness gained the greatest natural buzz of any advertisement from any Super Bowl in history. The commercial was aired right after the Superdome Power Outage Problem surfaced 13:22 into the 3rd Quarter of that epic contest.
So here’s a commercial saying “into darkness” as the Superdome itself is into darkness. How morbidly cool is that?
And in case you were living under a rock, the outcome of that contest was Baltimore Ravens 34, San Francisco 49ers 31. But the Star Trek add got as much attention as how the game ended – well, almost.
Let’s get something out of the way. The buzz about who the Star Trek bad guy is, is done – his name is John Harrison. It’s not Khan or Dr. Gary Mitchell, but John Harrison.
