Johnny Manziel: Charlie Sheen-Level Google Trends Makes Him NFL Draft’s “A List” Celeb

Facebook

Johnny Manziel. We know the Texas A&M Quarterbacks is the center of a lot of attention, but just how much? Well, to answer that question, this blogger compared his Google Trends Search Intensity Levels to that of his 2014 NFL Draft quarterback competitors Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles, and Derek Carr, and found that Manziel was three times more popular than the next highest ranking passer at his highest rate, Derek Carr. (The Courtyard New York Manhattan Central Park is Zennie62Media NFL Draft coverage sponsor!)

And in general, Carr, Bortles, and Bridgewater were close to each other, and as we move closer to the NFL Draft, their lines seem to come closer together, and slightly dip lower, below 20, where Manziel (a Dallas Cowboy?) is way up there – he’s at 86.

Here’s the chart:

What this means is a lot of people are searching for information about Johnny Manziel and a lot of media outlets are writing about him, in effect, meeting that demand.

But just how high is Mr. Manziel? Well, I placed Miley Cyrus in as a gauge and there was no contest as she was higher than he by a factor of 20:

But when I replaced Miley Cyrus with Charlie Sheen, I learned that Manziel’s trend line is basically equal to Sheen’s trend line, with Charlie just greater by a little bit:

But the two have traded places. That means Charlie Sheen should consider having Manziel on his show Anger Management in the future.

But beyond that, the Google Trend test cements Johnny Manziel’s status as the NFL Draft’s A-list celebrity, but also proves he’s the NFL’s A-List celebrity.

Look at this:

That compares Johnny Manziel with Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Cam Newton, and Peyton Manning. Your eyes do not deceive you: Manziel’s ahead of all, including Manning:

But that’s for the last week. What about the last 12 months:

Peyton Manning towers over all, but that was during the NFL Playoffs and Super Bowl period – before and after that, Manziel was tops more often than not.

So, I wanted to see what would happen if I took out Luck, and added Tom Brady…

Manziel still rules over the past seven days to this point, May 6th, 2014. But then, if I extend the chart to the past 12 months, I get this:

Basically, Tom Brady’s not the factor I thought he would be, and while Peyton Manning ruled the roost during the NFL Playoffs and the Super Bowl, Manziel was over the legend on many occasions during this period.

In closing, what we’re witnessing is the birth of a true NFL star. For some reason, Johnny Manziel’s buzz meter is astronomically high. That will translate into gargantuan merchandise and ticket sales for the team that drafts him.

Stay tuned.
