In Praise Of J-Lo’s Butt : Jennifer Lopez Got Back!

Jennifer Lopez’ butt has launched millions of words of praise over the years, and the tsunami of them started yet again with this January 25th 2013 photo of her showing her ample assets in a dress described as having “butt holes” that help show how shapely her round tush is.

What is it that drives men and women (yes, women!) wild about J-Lo’s Butt? Welll, women want to have one like it, and men want a woman who has one (if they can’t have Jennifer Lopez).

But the love for J-Lo’s butt also points to a major relaxing of racial issues. The fact is that, in our World’s cultural history, round objects have always been prized over not-so-round objects. Take Mickey Mouse and a body formed of circles. Consider the shape of pillows. And think of the shape of breasts. From round smiley face icons symbols to the popularity of the bald head, round shapes have always captured our attention and affection. But when it came to the butt that was not the case.

For decades women feared having “big butts” but that all ended as Hip Hop and Rap culture grew and praised, rather than denegrated, women who had big butts. As more and more white teens took to rap, the idea that it was not only OK, but desirable to have a large rear was propagated. Now, it’s a normal part of American Culture.

Thus, Hip Hop paved the way for Jennifer Lopez to show and maintain her butt, as well as Kim Kardashian and Serena Williams, too.

But it’s J-Lo who reins supreme. The Richest.org wrote:

J-Lo put big booties on the map and that brings her number one on our list of the best backside in Hollywood. Her rump is reportedly insured for $27 million and we think it is worth every penny. She is credited with bringing b u t t back into fashion and for that we will forever be grateful. She proudly showed off her assets on the cover of Stuff magazine’s Sept. 2001 cover, one of the magazine’s best selling issues in history. – in shorts that cost thousands of dollars, no less. Other b*tts may come and go, but we think J-Lo will be defending her throne for a long time to come.

As for this blogger, the preference is for a woman with muscle as much as for a big butt – ok, more so. Women with muscle are more confident, fun, and better in bed. Plus, muscles on a woman are a form of curves, and add to her overall shape. And in many cases, a great workout routine can add curves to a woman where none existed before.

Take Korney Olsen.

My friend is a major workout fiend and strong woman and one of the most lovely women I’ve seen. It’s only a matter of time before women like KO are recognized as the J-Lo of the next generation. We just need a rapper to make a hit riff about them.

Stay tuned.
