NFL Draft 2014: Sammy Watkins To St. Louis Rams; Houston Texans Trade 1st Round Picks

The Houston Texans will trade out of the first pick of the NFL Draft 1st round.

The 2014 NFL Draft (Zennie62Media coverage sponsored by Courtyard New York Manhattan Central Park) has so many talented prospects because of the unprecedented glut of juniors that having the first pick in the 1st round is no longer the advantage it used to be. A team can trade down, get more picks and players, and arguably spend only a fraction more overall than it would if it stayed in the first position. And that’s why I’m predicting the Houston Texans will trade with the St. Louis Rams, getting their two picks, while the Rams get the first selection.

The Rams will take Clemson WR Sammy Watkins.

Meanwhile, the Houston Texans will then take Jadeveon Clowney, only now they can take a quarterback lower in the 1st round.

The Rams will have the premier wide receiver to add to the arguably untapped talents of Trevon Austin, who the organization drafted in 2013.

The switch will cause Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater to fall to the Jacksonville Jaguars. At first, I had Teddy as the favorite in the race, but Jags GM Dave Caldwell said the magic words, that Manziel was the most ready for their system and style of play.

But the reason I’m going to stick with Bridgewater here is that, first, they worked him out twice, and second, their being coy about him. Where Caldwell tipped his hat was when he remarked in a post-luncheon interview that you can watch here, that the top quarterbacks drafted all played in under-center, pro-style offenses – Teddy Bridgewater did so, at Louisville; Manziel and the other favorite Blake Bortles, did not.

Stay tuned.
