On Artificial Intelligence Stephen Hawking & Racism – Video
On Artificial Intelligence Stephen Hawking, & Racism.
Stephen Hawking recently said that in the future artificial intelligence machines could become so advanced they would see that we are expendable. I find that silly and not because it could not happen but because the idea says that we will build a new type of racist paranoid who would “reason” that humans were less and therefore eliminate us.
What the hell kind of leap in logic is that? The real concern I have is that artificial intelligence researchers are installing what basically is a criminal way of thinking about life and see no reason why some type of coding should be installed that blocks such a possible idea as killing people.
It seems that we still don’t understand what makes us smart. The Turning Test or a modern application of it, was applied such that a computer was said to be a smart as a 13 year older. I would bet that computer would be tripped up by a sexually experienced 13 year old male gang-banger.
And what of Alan Turning? While much has been made of his terrible persecution because he was gay, what was his view of blacks? There is no record of this I have seen yet. Given the times why should we assume he was any less racist than his colleagues at Princeton at the time, let alone Britain?
Turning brings this monocultural view into what he creates. The Turning Test was to designed to root out a simple form of attempt at pattern modeling. But it’s one that did not take into account the mind of a young black gang-banger. Perhaps the machines of the future would try to eliminate that person much as racist white cops in small black towns seem to try to do today.
Stay tuned.
