Jill Broadhurst Sierra Club Logo Oakland Non-Issue
Jill Broadhurst, who is running against Annie Campbell Washington for the Oakland City Council District Four Seat currently held by Libby Schaaf, got into hot water with The Sierra Club over the use of their logo on her campaign material.
She reports on her flyers that she is a supporting member of the Sierra Club, and she is. But Sierra Club lawyer Norman La Force thought it looked like she was saying it backed her.
So he asked her to stop or else face legal action. Jill Broadhurst apologized.
But if she elected not to, the fact is the Sierra Club could lose in court if she elected to employ a fair use defense. She could say it was just her reporting the news and it was about a fact.
Stay tuned.
