John Ottman X Men Film Composer Slams Man Of Steel At Comic Con

John Ottman X Men Film Composer Slams Man Of Steel At Comic Con John Ottman, the legendary composer of superhero movies like this year’s X Men Days Of Future Past, X2, and Superman Returns, as well as other greats like The Usual Suspects, took time during our Comic Con 2014 interview to slam the score for Man of Steel that was created by Hans Zimmer.

Ottman, like many, was upset that John Williams’ masterfull theme for Superman was not used in Man of Steel. Ottman felt Man of Steel did not show proper reverence to Williams’ work, which is ingrained in his head and was when Superman Returns was made. I saw the new one recently, and I was in shock. I could talk for an hour about that,” he said.

Regarding developing the sound theme for the X Men series, John says that Bryan Singer, the director, will give him a lot of control, and is a “reactor” to what Ottman proposes.

I was surprised a fellow Hollywood film composer would come out and blast the work of someone else in his community, but that’s what John Ottman did.

But then, John Williams was the inspiration for all of the film composers I interviewed at that session, so from that perspective, Ottman is sharing a common view – he’s just not afraid to express it to the media. http://ift.tt/1o29sjI
