Taylor Swift beats Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry in a Google Trends analysis of YouTube data between 2008 and present day 2013.

On March 20th, Google started to incorporate YouTube search data into its online Google Trends platform. Now, YouTubers can actually taylor their video production to estimated demand over time for a keyword subject. But in this case, I elected to use the new tool to see how YouTube Search demand changed for three of the hottest (in more ways than one) female music celebrities of today: Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, and Katy Perry.

Here’s the total chart:

What I found, and is expressed in more detail in the video, is that as of this writing Taylor Swift has the greatest search demand over both Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry at present, 66 to 11 and 19, respectively.

That’s due, primarily, to the fact that Swift has had, in her latest song We Are Never Getting Back Together, of 2012, another hit, and at a time when both Perry and Cyrus have not done as well in music sales. In fact, the buzz and sales from Katy Perry’s 2011 hit Last Friday Night were just falling in mid-year 2012 just as Swift’s start rose again due to the promotional campaign for her album Red.

Who Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry Dates Is Secondary

Some have speculated that Katy Perry recently dated singer-songwriter John Meyer because he would help her in public-relations buzz. What some commenters at GossipCop have said was a “PR Romance.” Well, if it was, it didn’t help Perry’s YouTube search slide at all.

One would think that’s because on YouTube, fans look more for music videos than gossip information, right? Well, when we lock out YouTube data and focus just on Web searches, we find the same pattern:

Thus, it’s the music, and not the relationships, that drive searches, and for performers like Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, and Katy Perry, it’s the music that drives everything. Make a hit and fans will come.

There’s more to this analysis, and that will come later in the week.

Stay tuned.
