Meryl Streep Donates $10,000 In Viola Davis Honor, To R.I. Library

Call it nice timing, but the day after Meryl Streep won Oscar: Best Actress in an upset over Viola Davis, it was announced that Streep’s foundation Silver Mountain Foundation for the Arts gave $10,000 to the Segue Institute for Learning in Central Falls, R.I.

The Segue Institute for Learning was started by Angelo Garcia, a childhood friend of The Help star. A “little conversation” between Strep and Davis kick-started the action, and the check just happened to arrive the day after the Oscars and Streep’s win.

Of course, had Davis won, the donation would have made Streep look even better, but the reality is Meryl has nothing to prove at all. She’s great. The issue is The Academy’s annually questionable voting habits, borne of its 94 percent white, 77 percent male makeup.

Stay tuned.
