Pete’s Harbor (located in Redwood City, CA) continues to be plagued by people leaving unwanted items that are a hazzard – in this case, a boat that was apparently abandoned after being tied up to an outer harbor dock without notifying the harbor master or marina operator.
That’s a danger.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the boat’s abandonment on Wednesday and to determine where it came from and who it belongs to. An abandoned boat creates a nuisance and presents a potential safety and/or environmental hazard for the harbor community.
It’s not known if the boat problem is related to an incident of two days ago, where construction workers got into a heated argument with a tenant who did not want to leave. The workers were asked to dismantle parts of a dock.
Law enforcement has recommended that Pete’s Harbor staff remove the cleats on vacant slips, an activity that occupiers of the harbor have prevented by throwing equipment into the bay. The police have remained on site to protect harbor staff and equipment while the work is conducted to prevent further incidents.
According to reports, while the vast majority of slips are now empty, several have continued to occupy the harbor in violation of their month-to-month lease. Pete’s Harbor tenants were told to leave their slips by Jan. 15 in order for the harbor to prepare for a comprehensive survey of the marina docks, followed by a series of repairs needed to ready these docks for safe and long-term use.
In a battle which didn’t need to be waged and ended recently, Pete’s Harbor’s owner Paula Uccelli was harassed and threatened by a small number of people, some not even tenants of the facility.
Stay tuned.
