Anthony Weiner is behind Christine Quinn in the race to be the Democratic representative in the New York Mayor’s Race, and after the blog The Dirty released text messages and photos that Weiner sent to a young woman he’d befriended online.
The Marist Poll, released today, reports that Christine Quinn is ahead of Anthony Weiner by nine points, or 25 percent to 16 percent. Prior to the poll, Weiner was head by just two points in a poll presented on MSNBC’s Hardball, and Marist had him up by five points. Here’s the full breakdown:
25% Christine Quinn
16% Anthony Weiner
14% Bill de Blasio
14% Bill Thompson
7% John Liu
2% Erick Salgado
1% Sal Albanese
2% Other
19% Undecided
Here’s the rest of the story:
But with all of that, it’s important to note that Anthony Weiner is still in second place. That is, he’s still maintaining a state of trading places with Christine Quinn. What this indicates is that Anthony Weiner benefits from name recognition, and that neither Christine Quinn or the other New York Mayor’s Race candidates are strong enough to overtake Weiner and push him to lower rankings in polls for good.
This is a momentary state, and could change.
Weiner could rise again.
Sorry for the pun.
Stay tuned.
