ATHERTON, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Bay Area Lyme Foundation will host its second annual Polo for Lyme benefit on Sunday, October 13th from 12:00 to 5:00p.m at the Menlo Circus Club in Atherton with 100% of the contributions going directly to the Foundation’s research and educational programs.

The benefit will feature an action packed afternoon of polo, champagne, gourmet luncheon, auctions, fine wines, a live performance by bay area favorite Pride & Joy, and world-renowned violinist Carlos Reyes. The event will be emceed by CeCe Sammy, vocal and performance coach and TV presenter, and also include polo traditions including a hat parade and competition, and champagne divot stomp.

Bay Area Lyme Foundation opened its doors in 2012 after a group of Portola Valley, CA friends noticed that Lyme disease had affected an alarming number of members in the local community. The Polo for Lyme benefit aims to spread awareness and educate the Bay Area community about Lyme disease, and raise funds for groundbreaking research.
“Not only is it going to be a fabulous, fun filled afternoon,” said Ana Thompson, Executive Director of the Bay Area Lyme Foundation, “but Polo for Lyme will truly help us in our mission to make Lyme disease easy to diagnose and simple to cure.”
Lyme disease is one of the country’s fastest growing infectious diseases, and has been reported in every state but Hawaii. In California, every county but two has the Western black-legged tick which transmits Lyme disease. Despite this, research is significantly underfunded, receiving only $1 per patient on research for every $910 spent on West Nile Disease. The Foundation collaborates with world-class research organizations like Stanford University to identify ways to eliminate the disease and provide reliable information about prevention and early treatment for the millions that suffer worldwide.

Thereafter, tickets will start at $125 with tables and VIP tickets also available. Polo for Lyme is put on in association with Heart of Silicon Valley, a non-profit group dedicated to bringing people together through music for important causes.
