MARVEL’s Ant-Man, is the “tentpole” movie reportedly headed to Pinewood Studios Atlanta, Fayetteville, GA. This blogger has made a series of videos chronicling the construction of what will be the largest studio in the state, and a 300-acre movie production complex, slated to open January, 2014.
For some weeks, the buzz surrounding Pinewood Studios Atlanta, Fayetteville, GA was that it’s managers signed a “tentpole movie” with a budget of roughly $160 million, and that it was to start production “early in the year.”
MARVEL’s Ant-Man was originally slated to be made in Pinewood Studios, South Buckinghamshire, UK, but, as reported in this space earlier, the “South Bucks” Town Council rejected the 3,000 acre expansion plans twice in 2013 and because it called for the use of land protected by the greenbelt that surrounds it. The South Bucks neighbors are nortorious in their NIMBY stance, and right at the time when Britain is becoming the World’s center for the production of large-budget movies.
Leading that movie production charge is Pinewood Studios itself, with Star Wars Episode VII and MARVEL’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron slated to start production in 2014. Then, there’s the new Bond studio that opened, and which will be used for the next James Bond movie code-named “Bond 24” as its the 24th installment in that film series.
All of that, and more, spelled the end for MARVEL’s Ant-Man‘s production dreams in the UK. Pinewood Studios Atlanta, Fayetteville, GA was designed to be able to handle a movie like MARVEL’s Ant-Man.
All it took was a “MARVEL source” for Latino Review to share the news that Georgia was, indeed, the place where Ant-Man was going to be filmed.
Paul Rudd To Fayetteville, Georgia
All of this means you’re going to see actor Paul Rudd from Anchorman 2, and the rest of the cast of the MARVEL comics creation, making a place for themselves in Fayetteville, Atlanta, and the Atlanta Metro Area in 2014.
MARVEL’s Ant-Man is primarily the story of Hank (or Henry) Pym (Paul Rudd). Pym is a scientist who developed a set of chemicals that allowed him to change his size at will – either very large, or very small. He also had a “cybernetic helmet,” which he used to communicate with ants. Created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby, Ant-Man first appeared in Tales to Astonish #27 in January of 1962. (Once again, we see evidence of 1962’s impact on World Pop Culture today – hence, Zennie62.)
As a note, Hank Pym also created a super-advanced robot he called Ultron.
Ant-Man is to be released July 31, 2015. Its executive producers are Louis D’Esposito and Michael Grillo with Kevin Feige as producer. Joe Cornish and Edgar Wright are writing the screenplay, and Wright will direct.
The next question is who will play Janet Van Dyne a.k.a, Pym’s love interest.
