Peyton Manning has signed a five year contract with the Indiana Colts. The Colts’ Owner Jim Irsay posted on Twitter that Manning would make $90 million in the five year contract and in the first three years Manning will receive $69 million. The Boston Globe reports that Manning’s contract matches that of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Manning, the only player to ever be the four time winner of league’s Most Valuable Player award, has been playing for 13 years and is 35-years-old. Sky Sports reports that before this deal was accomplished there had to be a franchise tag placed upon him:

” Before the contract had been agreed upon, the Colts placed their franchise tag on Manning to prevent him from hitting the free agency market.

Manning would have made $23.1 million this season if he had played with the tag but the long-term deal gives the Colts more room to operate under the salary cap. “
