Here’s the video – a classic:

For the record, Larry Reid is the President Of The Oakland City Council and after his initial reaction to Oakland Mayor Jean Quan’s claim that she backed the Oakland curfew plan, explaining that she was in the same public safety committee that he was on and as Mayor took the deciding 5-4 vote to table it in 2011.

And before that Reid said Quan put a sunset date on his loitering ordinance – and it was never implemented when Chief Richard Word was the Chief of Police and Quan was over the Public Safety Committee. Larry said that because the media asked questions, and also because Anne Washington Campbell kind of fed the flames by saying the numbers were, indeed, wrong, when Mayor Quan came back from Brazil, she had to deal with this media firestorm – she did not do well.

Reid said that the 100-block plan is not implementable because Oakland doesn’t have enough police officers. Moreover, Larry said he would not have came up with anything like the 100-block plan.

What was most damaging about Reid’s complaint was his statement in the video that Quan “doen’t work with the Council” – she does not reach out and talk to any of the Councilmembers except when she needs something. Larry stopped short of saying he was sorry that the recall effort did not succeed, stating that he “would rather keep my comments to myself.”

Stay tuned.
