Godzilla 2014 will be out early – in graphic novel form.

Legendary Pictures has just announced that 2014’s most anticipated movie will be released in the form of a graphic novel called Godzilla: Awakening written by Godzilla screenwriter Max Borenstein, and Greg Borenstein. Here’s Gareth Edwards, the movie’s director, to talk about the new publication:

Godzilla: Awakening is set “decades before” the storyline of Godzilla 2014 takes place. On Twitter, Max Borenstein says it “a companion not an adaptation, taking place years before but planting seeds…at the dawn of the Atomic and Godzilla Age!”

Godzilla: Awakening is set for release May 7th.
