The news that Actress Debra Messing is separating From husband Daniel Zelman comes as no surprise to this blogger. Not for any inside info on their marriage, but because of something that hit me this weekend. It seems like the holidays – or maybe the 2011 Christmas Season – brings out the worst in relationships.

Last Saturday I saw a friend who was crying because her boyfriend’s leaving for New York. Hopefully for her he will return, but for now, and just before Christmas, she’s a wreck.

Then, later the same night, I met a woman who just separated from her husband after one year of marriage and because she found a Craigslist personal ad he ran looking for dates, and emails to an ex-girlfriend of his. In retaliation, she calmly told me, she trashed their apartment, broke all of their dishes, and some of the furniture.

Never piss off a woman athlete.

But, for some strange reasons, it seems like there’s a lot of relationship discontent around the holidays.

According to People Magazine, which is getting some juicy scoops of late…

“The decision was mutual, and they remain supportive of one another and committed to raising their son as a family.”
Messing, 43, first met Zelman – now an actor and producer – when they were both students at New York University (and then dated for eight years).

Which tells me little of nothing, and explains why Twitter’s so cool.

On Twitter, the report is the pair are going to continue living together, anyway:

Debra Messing is still living with her estranged hubby, despite their split bit.ly/vPbvQK Would you be able to do this?

So I read that as being their for the kid, the sex is readily available, and we can still open Christmas presents too.

Not bad, I guess.

Stay tuned.
