Albert Pujols did his best Babe Ruth and Reggie Jackson imitations in hitting three massive home runs, as the St. Louis Cardinals powered their way to a demoralizing 16 to 7 rout of the Texas Rangers on Saturday.
With that performance, Pujols becomes only the third player in major league baseball (MLB) history to hit three home runs in one World Series game.
With that, it must be said that while Pujols didn’t reach the lofty regular season home run heights that Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, and Sammy Sosa have, he now has something over all of them.
Pujols said to the New York Times: “I didn’t walk into the ballpark today thinking that I was going to have a night like this. I walked to the ballpark with the attitude that I have every day — to help this ballclub to win.”
Rangers Behind, Again
Now the load’s back on the Texas Rangers, who find themselves headed to World Series Game Four at the tail end of a 2-1 contest for wins. The Rangers pitcher Derek Holland, who’s never faced the Cardinals or Pujols, gets his first chance today.
Will Albert get another three home runs, or will the Rangers walk him? If this blogger were Rangers Manager Ron Washington, I’d just walk him.
Oh, who’s this space rooting for? The Rangers, but that doesn’t stop this space from acknowledging a great baseball job by Mr. Pujols.
