A martyr is someone who “is somebody who suffers persecution and death for refusing to renounce, or accept, a belief or cause, usually religious.” But in Ms. Todd’s case, that belief, that “cause,” was that she was worth something, and not worthless. Amanda Todd committed suicide on Wednesday, after a long battle to be accepted by the wrong group of people (I have to believe she had family and friends but elected to ignore their love for her) and joins a lengthening list of people we know about, and who I personally know, who have elected to take their lives in 2012.
This video Todd made, now seen over 1.5 million times since it was posted on September 7th, tells her entire, sad, battle to be accepted. Amanda wrote this in the video description area:
I’m struggling to stay in this world, because everything just touches me so deeply. I’m not doing this for attention. I’m doing this to be an inspiration and to show that I can be strong. I did things to myself to make pain go away, because I’d rather hurt myself then someone else. Haters are haters but please don’t hate, although im sure I’ll get them. I hope I can show you guys that everyone has a story, and everyones future will be bright one day, you just gotta pull through. I’m still here aren’t I ?
