The Peter King Sports Illustrated story that Texans GM Rick Smith prefers Buffalo DE / LB Khalil Mack over Clowney just is not true. Whatever friend said otherwise may be an NFL agent trying to pull a fast one.
The fact is that the Texans have planned for the better part of the last year to get Clowney, they just did not know they were going to be in position at number one.
On January 14, 2014 Texans Owner Bob McNair just gushed about Clowney according to Yahoo Sports and in a video that has been removed from sight. Taken down!
What does that tell you?
I think Peter King was being played by an NFL agent who has something to gain by trying to force the Texans hand. Perhaps that agent wants to see if Houston is willing to sign Clowney up now and stop all the drama.
That is my bet.
