IF It’s the The Great Recology Compost Giveaway!

The Annual Great Compost Giveaway is a “bring your own bucket” event providing up to 10 gallons of prized compost to San Francisco residents for free. It’s at four SF locations:

Marina Green
200 Marina Blvd. (across from Safeway)

McLaren Park
21 John F. Shelley Dr. (Amphitheater Upper Parking Lot)

Ocean Beach
850 Great Highway (between Lincoln Way and Fulton St.)

Golden Gate Park CommUNITY Garden (Walk-up Location Only)
780 Frederick St. (near Arguello St.)

The finished compost, a custom blend made from food scraps and plant cuttings collected from Recology’s curbside compost (green bin) program, is an excellent planting mix for home gardens and outdoor container plants. The Compost Giveaway is a free event and is open to the public.

In addition to the above, this year’s Compost Giveaway will commemorate the launch of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department’s Urban Agriculture Resource Center at the Golden Gate Park CommUNITY Garden. The City is opening the resource center to give all San Francisco residents the opportunity to pick up compost and other garden supplies. Recology will donate and deliver compost to the resource center on a regular basis.

Recology hosts the Compost Giveaway each year with the San Francisco Recreation & Park Department and the San Francisco Department of Environment to thank residents for helping San Francisco get closer to becoming the first city in the nation to achieve Zero Waste.
