Garrett Gilbert (Ft Worth Star-Telegram)
Garrett Gilbert, SMU QB, once the Texas Longhorns starting quarterback, and member of the 2014 NFL Draft class, is Leigh Steinberg’s first NFL client since being reinstated to represent players.

For Leigh Steiberg, who’s represented some of the NFL’s best signal callers, like Steve Young, Garrett Gilbert is perfect. He’s 6-4, 220, ran one of the nation’s best passing offenses at SMU, and on top of his passing game talent, is a deceptively fast runner. Gilbert’s projected to be drafted somewhere between rounds two and four, but now that he’ Leigh’s client, his profile is going to be that much higher; the 2nd round seems a good possibility depending on how well his pro-day goes.

But before you make an impression of Garrett Gilbert, take a look at these videos of his performance:

In short, Leigh Steiberg’s client may not be the bonafied number one pick in the NFL Draft, but he’s the kind of talent that could find his way into the lower part of the NFL Draft 1st Round if he tests well in the coming weeks and months. Remember, he was at one point the starter for the Texas Longhorns and one of the best QB’s in the nation coming out of high school.

Garrett Gilbert is good enough an NFL Draft prospect for a team like the Houston Texans, which is looking at quarterbacks, to actually trade down and gather more picks, with the idea of getting him either late in the 1st round or early in the 2nd round.

Stay tuned.
