Tricia Helfer
Tricia Helfer
Tricia Helfer’s known for two things: her killer legs and her role as ‘Number Six,’ the humanoid cylon on the rebooted Battlestar Galactica from 2004 to 2009. But now the star who’s played in TV shows like Community and with her roles in Tron: Uprising and in Battlestar Galactica has become something of a Comic Con favorite, is getting her own show: Killer Women on ABC starting Tuesday, January 7th, 2014 at 10 PM EST / PST.

Killer Women stars Tricia as Molly Parker, described by ABC as a “ballsy (?) and badass” Texas Ranger, one of the few women in the male-dominated ranks. Killer Women is executive produced by two killer women in Hollywood Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) and series creator Hannah Shakespeare (The Raven). ABC describes the series this way:

Molly is committed to finding the truth and seeing justice served. In a male-dominated world, she is aided by her sixth sense for why women kill: rarely out of hatred, usually for what they love. Standing squarely behind her is her boss, Company Commander Luis Zea. Molly also has the support of her loving family, including her brother Billy and his wife Becca. On the verge of getting divorced from her narcissistic husband, Jake, Molly relishes her new-found freedom as she begins an affair with a sexy, dangerously handsome DEA agent, Dan Winston

Killer Women also stars Marc Blucas as Dan Winston, Marta Milans as Becca Parker, Michael Trucco as Billy Parker, and Alex Fernandez as Luis Zea. It has this guest cast: Alexandra Pomales as Hailee Parker, Siena Nicole Agudong as Lulu Parker, Nadine Velazquez as Martina Alvarez, Vic Trevino as Guillermo Salazar, Jeffrey Nordling as Jake Brinks, Brad Leland as Wily Whitman, Shane Jacobsen as Jason Bluford, and Alison Viktorin as Heather Mendelsohn.

Killer Women is produced by ABC Studios. Hannah Shakespeare (The Raven) and Ed Zuckerman (Law & Order) serve as executive producers/writers, along with executive producers Sofía Vergara (Modern Family), Martin Campbell (Casino Royale), Ben Silverman (The Office), and Luis Balaguer (Viva Hollywood!) on the series. The pilot, “La Sicaria,” was written by Hannah Shakespeare and directed by Lawrence Trilling.

I’m very excited to see this kind of woman-driven action romantic dramas on ABC, and with Killer Women, ABC ads another show to a growing list of good programs like Rizzoli & Isles, and Nikita, Scandal (on ABC) and Cold Case, which ran from 2003 to 2010 and is still alive in syndication. The trailer shows Molly Parker as gun-toting, rocket-launcher-using Texas Ranger with legs to die for – you can bet she’s going to throw a punch or two, too!

Stay tuned.
