The Godzilla 2014 movie’s release date has been May 16th, 2014 since the winter of 2012. But there’s a big clue the movie’s release date has been moved back and to Summer of 2014.
The Godzilla 2014 new teaser poster released at Comic Con 2013 in San Diego gives a big fat new release date that no one in the media picked up on, even those among the credentialed press at Comic Con, except this blogger.
While Internet commenters were raving about the obviously huge tail that belongs to Godzilla – so large that three military helicopter flying next to it look like insects – not one pointed to the words at the bottom of the poster: SUMMER 2014.
The Summer of 2014 does not start May 16th; generally, the Summer starts unofficially on Memorial Day Weekend, May 28th, and officially on the summer solstice June 20 or 21. But the point is, both dates are past the current assumed Godzilla release date of May 16th.
Why?
Well, the fact that Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures have severed their relationship is one big possible reason and that NBC / Universal will be the new partner with Legendary. The absence of a full-court-press promotion effort on the part of Warner Bros and for the Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla 2014 movie was evident at Comic Con. There was no attempt to mention Godzilla at the Warner Bros booth, pointing this blogger to the Legendary booth, but Pacific Rim, a movie well-along in its Warner Bros / Legendary contract life, was represented.
In all, it’s fair to say that Warner Bros overall poor effort would seem have played one role, as well as the fact that there’s no trailer for the movie, and that one should have been released at Comic Con.
In other words, its evident that the entire movie is about a good three-to-six-months off its May 16th deadline.
Don’t be surprised when Legendary Pictures announces that the dates been moved back, and the guess here is it’s going to premier just after Comic Con 2014. At least that should be what happens. Godzilla should have taken over Comic Con, with a giant tail on one of the large hotel buildings, and not been one of the second-mentioned topics behind Catching Fire and Spider-Man 2.
