Baltimore Ravens part ways with fullback Vonta Leach
Baltimore Ravens Re-sign fullback Vonta Leach

Apparently you can go home again. That’s what former Baltimore Ravens fullback Vonta Leach did today.

The Ravens cut Leach in June when they failed to agree on a contract restructure. Leach tested the free agent market, but had no luck finding a new home.

The Ravens lost tight end Dennis Pitta for the season after he dislocated and fractured his hip during practice on Saturday. Sunday they signed veteran tight end Visanthe Shiancoe.

Today the Ravens re-signed Leach to a two-year deal.

Adding Leach gives the Ravens an extra punch to their running game.

The 31 year-old fullback made two Pro Bowl appearances during his previous two seasons with the Ravens. He brings more zip to the offense and adds leadership to the locker room.

Head coach John Harbaugh is pleased with the Leach re-signing:

“Having Vonta back gives you a physical presence for sure with your offense, short yardage, goal line. Also, it’s a leadership presence.”

General manager Ozzie Newsome added:

“He played a significant role in helping us get to the AFC championship game in 2011 and win the Super Bowl last season,” General Manager Ozzie Newsome said when the Ravens released Leach. “He added to our toughness and will to win, plus he provided leadership. He’s a good football player.”

I am beyond happy about Leach! He is a strong, dependable force on the Ravens offense and shows how much they value him as a player. It is a shame they could not agree on terms last month, but thankfully everything worked out in the long run.

I always trust Ozzie, he knows how turn lemons into lemonade. Welcome back Leach! I look forward to seeing you play again this season.
