wendy-davis-TX-sebate-e1372184595671 Texas State Senator Wendy Davis is a new political star for Democrats, after her successful 13-hour filibuster of a sweeping GOP anti-abortion bill.

The bill, called SB-5, would have, if passed, would give rise to the closing of every single doctors clinic where one could get an abortion in Texas. It would ban all abortions after 20 weeks.

#StandWithWendy was the social media rallying cry on Tuesday, and that’s exactly what many did. You have to love Senator Davis’ tweet that started it all:

But they also stood with Wendy in a physical way, too.

Here’s a taste of the gallery in the Texas Legislature cheering in calling for the blocking of SB-5:

This shows the power not just of social media, but of a single, determined voice at the right place, at the right time.

Wendy Davis is the Texas Senator that Texas Governor Rick Perry once referred to as “a show horse.” He said this in 2011, as Senator Davis was about to filibuster a bill that would have wrecked Texas public school funding:

But then some can’t seem to get over the idea that Governor Perry’s in the closet:

Of course, Rick’s never seemed to hit the right mark with women, and so Wendy Davis, this teen Mom turned Harvard Law School graduate became the latest in a line of Texas women from the late Molly Ivins and Ann Richards, and Barbara Jordan, to stake her claim for change, and make it right in the face of a Republican Governor.

Stay tuned for more on Wendy Davis, a rising star in national politics after last night.
