johnwilliamsMan Of Steel perhaps the most eagerly awaited Superman movie since the 1978 Richard Donner / Illa Sankind film that started the movie series, comes out in theaters today. I do plan to see this movie, but I’m quite unhappy John Williams major theme, March for Superman, is not used.

Starring Henry Cavill as Clark Kent / Superman, Man Of Steel was designed by Christopher Nolan and Zach Synder from the start as an epic retelling of the origin of Superman. From all accounts, and reviews I’ve bothered to read thus far, the movie, as they say “soars above the rest.”

man-of-steel-box-office-02 But to my mind it can’t fly that high without John Williams’ March for Superman. His 1978 creation has become not just Superman’s theme, but a timeless classic that represents how movie music can define a culture. John Williams’ Superman Theme has been used countless times to form the back music for epic sports events and achievements, and reminds us of the terrific actor and person that was the late Christopher Reeve.

While I understand the needs to move on, I just plain don’t think it’s necessary to do so, all the time. There are some things that are just timeless – John Williams’s Superman Theme is one of them.
