Amanda Knox and her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito have spent four years in jail, were convicted of the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher the first time, then acquitted on appeal, and now, thanks to the Italian Supreme Court, have to stand trial again on the same murder case, only this time Knox has been back in America for just over a year.
Be happy you’re in America, where this kind of double jeopardy is against the law.
And be careful when you go to study abroad, because the legal systems in countries like Italy are so corrupt and perverse that your life could be completely altered, even after it looks like you’re innocent.

Amanda Knox has to wait a full year for a new trial to begin – the one good thing is that, as of this writing, she does not have to go back to Italy.
Just What Did Amanda Knox Do?

But that’s the American version, one that leaves out mention of race; the European version does not.
The problem with the Amanda Knox / Raffaele Sollecito / Meredith Kercher case is that no one knows who actually killed Meredith Kercher. What’s clear is that Meredith Kercher’s naked body was found and with blood on it, and around the room she was in. She had been manually penetrated, but there was no reported sign of rape.
What’s also clear is that one black guy Rudy Guede was exchanged for Patrick Lumumba, and that’s because Amanda Knox seemed to be on a plan to point the finger at a black man she knew, only she fingered the wrong brother, according to prosecutor Luigi Riello.

Mr Riello also focused on Miss Knox’s initial claim to police that an African barman in Perugia, Patrick Lumumba, may have murdered Kercher, a claim she then withdrew before police arrested Ivory Coast born drifter Rudy Guede after finding his DNA around Kercher’s body…”Naming a black man was more credible if someone had seen him leaving the house,” Mr Riello said.
Rudy Guede tried to appeal his case, and failed. He’s still in jail in Italy.
The alternative version of this aspect of the story is that Knox was trying to protect Rudy Guede and so named Patrick Lumumba, the owner of the bar that Knox worked at in Perugia. But yet another version of the story is that the Italian police were quick to force Knox to implicate Lumumba, and thus, the Italian police caused the error.
But the fact that there are so many versions leaves wide open the now-obvious American version of “reasonable doubt” – which doesn’t seem to play here.
