Coldwater, the movie that was the result of the production and directoral effort of Vincent Grashaw, made its debut at South-By-Southwest Festival in Austin tonight. In fact, as this blog post is typed, the movie’s just starting.
If you, as a regular viewer, recall, this blogger interviewed Mr. Grashaw last June 2012. He and I met during the press preview for Evan Glodell’s amazing movie Bellflower at Comic Con in 2011. We kept in touch with each other, and around late May, he told me about his directorial debut, and I said we have to do a video interview. Since I was in Georgia, and he was in Beverly Hills, we skyped it.
During the talk, Vincent said that Coldwater’s a movie that has been in formation for 13 years. It started because he had a teenage friend who was deemed a kind of misfit, and sent off to a rehab school. According to Vincent, his friend emerged a “different” person, more of a problem than when he went to the program.

Since our talk, Vincent trekked off to the Donnar Pass in California in August of 2012 to make his movie, and after that was notoriously hard to get a hold of, or an update from. Now, Coldwater’s making its debut at SXSW, and I find out via Glodell on Facebook – by accident. That’s bad man.
But I remain a fan. I figured Vince was out-of-his-mind busy.

The official synopis for Coldwater is this:
Brad Lunders is a teenager forcefully abducted from his home in the middle of the night by his mother’s consent to a harsh wilderness reform facility. There is no contact with the outside world and the retired war colonel in charge prides himself on breaking an inmate’s spirit in order to correct delinquent behavior. As we learn of the tragic events that led to Brad’s arrival, unforeseen circumstances threaten to tear the already eroding reform facility apart, forcing Brad to confront not only his fellow inmates and the personnel in charge, but finally his own sense of what is right and what is wrong.
Coldwater features the acting debut of P.J. Boudousqué, as Brad Lunders. with James C. Burns, Chris Petrovski, Octavius J. Johnson, Nicholas Bateman, and Stephanie Simbari.
