The 85th Academy Awards and The Night Of 100 Stars Oscars Party is today, what’s called Oscar Sunday, the Super Bowl Sunday of entertainment! And what would Oscar Sunday be without a surprise, this day’s ripe for this one: Argo gets Best Picture over Lincoln.

While this blogger explained why in the video below….

bdThe point has to be expanded upon a bit.

Last fall, there was an “e-voting” controversy, where many members of The Academy didn’t know how to access the new online voting system, and asked for paper ballots. While The Academy reported that the matter was addressed smoothly, one can’t help but wonder if it really was. In other words, seeing the new system, some members may have opted out of voting – the question is, was it enough to not push Ben Affleck to the point of being one of the directors that was nominated? That, even though his movie has snatched up best picture wins all over the place and even over Lincoln.

Thus, the statistical norm that the winner of the Best Director at The Director’s Guild (Ben), gets Oscars Best Director (but has to be nominated), and that person’s picture wins Best Picture (Argo) is broken. It would seem to pave the way for Lincoln, as I safely predicted, but it could just as easily mean a win for Argo.

There’s the upset.
