Lance Armstrong appeared on Oprah to say that he was sorry for lying about doping. This blogger’s not upset with Ms. Armstrong because it was expected. There’s no way a person can beat cancer as he did and on the way to the stunning number of cycling victories he’s had.

But the bottom line is this: Lance Armstrong beat cancer.

That aside, he lied about doping, and bullied and threatened a lot of people in the process of doing so. As a result of over 15 years of that kind of behavior, everyone from the U.S. Post Office to Nike has nothing good to say or to think about Lance.

But with all of that, it’s hard for this blogger to feel any anger toward Lance. The view here is that doping and performance enhancing drugs are so common that the action should be allowed, as long as we know about it.

Where do we draw the line? At some point in our society the stigma that causes this whole set of policies will fade, and doping will be known and commonplace. Then we’ll look back on all of this differently and as the witch hunt it is.
