Star Trek: Into Darkness is leading the summer blockbuster movie preview race from a content standpoint, as the second trailer for the movie has been released in as many weeks – that and a 10 minute version that’s suddenly flying around the Internet.
First, here’s what CNN iReport staffer Henry Hanks calls the “new, new” version of Star Trek: Into Darkness:
This version has two voices: the first one is that of Captain Pike, played by Bruce Greenwood, and the second, the one that says “You think you’re safe..” is that of John Harrison, played by Benedict Cumberbatch.
Second, here’s the leaked 10 minute trailer, which presents a masterwork movie. It opens in a bedroom somewhere in the London of the 23rd Century (which looks a lot like the San Francisco of the 23rd Century in Star Trek). Apart from the futuristic trappings, everything else is familiar: the human couple, the clock that wakes them up, the bed they sleep in, and the car they drive – a car used to drive to a hospital that looks like it was once someone’s very stately home in another century. The man who goes there is obviously looking after someone very sick, and that’s when we see John Harrison step forward to cryptically announce “I can save her.”
Then the trailer breaks to another scene where Kirk and McCoy are being pursued by an angry band of natives who mean to kill them for saying something in their language they should not have said. Whatever it is, the band is in hot pursuit; as Kirk and McCoy run away, they’re in communication with Mr. Spock, who’s more concerned that they violated the Prime Directive than the more immediate concern of their safety. The pair reach a tall cliff and jump right into the water below, and to the USS Enterprise, which is underwater.
This segment reveals that The Enterprise is capable of working underwater as much as it is in deep space. Since the giant vessel’s designed to keep out both forms of space it does make sense.
We also get the idea that someone’s either passed away or has just had a near death experience.
The trouble is, this video, uploaded to a website in what appears to be the Ukraine, was made by someone who either had to laugh or felt compelled to make editorial comments. If you can get through that, you’re good to go:
