Google Trends At 100 Results
Google Trends At 100 Results
For all practical purposes, Google Trends has been rendered useless; it has not been updated in three days. As of this writing, the last Google Trends update was on Tuesday, December 3rd, when Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2012 was the top of the list of hot trends.

The question is, what to do in cases like this one? The best, next alternative is the trends are of SocialMention, a search engine that combines Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and message board listings for a particular topic. It’s trends page was updated 43 minutes ago, and has these results:

3. Vitamin D Study
4. Kate Middleton
5. Blood Sugar

Given the problems with Google Trends that have been discussed here at Zennie62.com, SocialMention is the best alternative, and may just be a better tool to use. The only problem is the persistant appearance of “Airline Baby Ban” which has been at the number one spot all year.

Something’s wrong, there.

Another tool to employ is the main Google News page, to at least see what editors are putting out there to be read. The problem is that Google Trends and Google News seldom match, giving you a window into the problems of media, today: not giving the people what they want.
