The news is on the website of the LA Lakers organization and in rather large font: “LA Lakers Relieve Mike Brown.” And as if to add insult to injury, they posted a photo of Brown looking back with a rather quizzical expression on his face.

That’s cold.

But the even colder bottom line is Brown wasn’t getting it done with the new Lakers talent. But that’s said, this blogger wasn’t sold on bringing in Steve Nash as he’s too old. Kobe Bryant’s already the old man and the Lakers don’t need another one.

Dwight Howard is great as an addition, but even then, he’s at the fringe of what I’d stand. A championship NBA team must consist of mostly young players who are from large schools with winning records. That’s the formula for success – if you can trade to get a player who fits that template, fine. But make sure you fit the template.

The Lakers are older and slower and whinier than they need to be.

It’s not Mike Brown’s fault at all. In fact, it’s the fault of Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak who said “This was a difficult and painful decision to make. Mike was very hard-working and dedicated, but we felt it was in the best interest of the team to make a change at this time. We appreciate Mike’s efforts and contributions and wish him and his family the best of luck.”

Mitch Kupchak should go next. The Lakers had the right idea in trying to get Chris Paul, and should have sued the NBA for blocking the deal.

But that’s in the past.

Stay tuned.
